The story of a Thai female boxer who fought in the ring while she was an inmate and turned herself into a world boxing champion could become a Hollywood film. Siriporn Thaveesuk, who used the name Samson Sor Siriporn for boxing, yesterday sold her life story and autobiography to a US-based production house, Women in Focus Productions Inc.

Executives of the company led by Tim Zajaros and Narumol Sriyanond signed an agreement with Ms Siriporn at the Sports and Tourism Ministry yesterday.

Mr Zajaros said the production house would turn her life story into a film script and short film, which would be offered to Hollywood production companies such as Paramount Pictures, Sony or Fox.

''In American society, I have never seen an inmate do so well _ reaching the point where the person becomes a world boxing champion.

''The film will be highly recognised in Hollywood film society,'' he said.

A source who was close to the contract signing said Ms Siriporn will receive US$10,000, or around 310,000 baht for the life story, with an option to earn a six-digit figure plus a percentage of the take if her life story is made into a Hollywood film. Ms Siriporn, 24, was jailed in 2000 for selling methamphetamine pills and took up boxing to protect herself from violent inmates.

She was granted an amnesty and released in June last year after she won the female World Boxing Council (WBC) championship light fly-weight title, in a fight staged at Thanyaburi Women's Prison in April last year. She wants to use the money from the deal to further her dream to run a grocery shop in Chai Badan district of Lop Buri, her native province.
