Latest The government and its five coalition partners agreed on Saturday to call parliament into a special session on Sunday to discuss the political crisis and try to find a way out.

Coalition partner and ex-premier Banharn Silpa-archa of the Chart Thai party convinced Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej of People Power and the other four party leaders to meet late on Friday at his home.

Mr Banharn said he was deeply concerned about street demonstrations and violence during the day.

After the meeting, Mr. Banharn told a press briefing that the coalition parties have agreed to propose a special parliamentary meeting Sunday to seek a solution to end the stand-off between PAD supporters and the government.

The PAD was holding its ground at Government House for a fifth day on Saturday. Another parallel demonstration was under way at the group's street headquarters near the Makkhawan Rangsan bridge.

Both groups continued to demand the resignation of Mr Samak and his cabinet.y , the nearby bridge where Rajadamnern Road crosses in front of the UN regional headquarters, demanding that Mr. Samak resign. (with additional information from TNA)
