The People Power Party asked Army chief yesterday to remove a senior military official, claiming he had sided with opponents of the PPP in the election.
General Udomchai Ongkhasing, PPP's chief investigator into the ballot, claimed Colonel Thanat Panya, deputy director of the Internal Security Operations Command, had sided with rival parties.
The accusation was contained in a letter submitted to the secretary for Army chief General Anupong Paochinda.
Col Thanat had threatened witnesses and canvassers in order to create false evidence to slander the PPP, he alleged.
"He has been doing the same thing in the case involving PPP's deputy leader [Yongyuth Tiyapairat]. Not only in Chiang Rai, but also in Buri Ram. It shows the military was involved with VCDs allegedly showing Yongyuth attempting to secure partylist votes in Chiang Rai," Udomchai alleged.
Meanwhile, Gen Udomchai denied People Power planned to transport supporters from Chiang Rai to the Election Commission headquarters to pressure the five commissioners on the case.
Gen Somjet Boonthanom, head of the Office for the Council for National Security, said he had been told by an official in Chiang Rai that a powerful politician in the province would transport supporters to protest outside the EC.
