More than 1,200 competitors are expected to join the 15th Laguna Phuket Triathlon in Phuket on December 7.

Regarded as Southeast Asia's premier multi-sport race, it is divided into individual and team events.

One of the sponsors, Herbalife International (Thailand) Limited are also challenging companies to sponsor teams to compete in the Herbalife Corporate Challenge Team Relay.

Corporate teams comprise three athletes - a swimmer, cyclist and runner - who are required to compete over a demanding course made up of a 1.8km swim, 55km bike ride and 12km run.

The top three teams will receive US$1,000, US$750 and US$500 respectively.

This year's Laguna will also welcome a selection of the world's best professional triathletes, some of them Ironman champions. The men's pro line-up includes Laguna's defending champion Massimo Cigana from Italy.

The confirmed female professionals include the 2008 Hawaii Ironman 70.3 champion, Canadian Samantha McGlone; Australian Belinda Granger who has won three Ironman titles this year in China, Canada and Malaysia.

Forty teams (120 athletes) and 750 athletes have so far registered.
