Fourteen countries will compete in the International Track and Field meet which will be part of the 54th Track and Field Championship of Thailand to be held April 26-29 at the Thammasat University Stadium ground in Rangsit. The most coveted trophy at stake will be the King's Cup which will be presented to the team which scores the most number of points.

His Majesty's representative, Privy Councillor Atthaniti Ditha-amnart will present the trophy on the final day of the event.

Thailand will be represented by clubs while the countries competing in the international meet Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, are expected to send their best athletes.

This being the Olympic Games year, we should enjoy excellent competition in most international events, said national coach Supanas Ariyamongkol yesterday.

Some 2023 athletes will be seen action. Also taking part are the country's youth athletes, from all parts of the Kingdom. Boys under 19 has drawn 376 entries, girls Under 19 (268), boys under 16 (394) and girls under 16 (385).

The open events have drawn 413 men and 187 women.

The two open sprint relays are expected to attract keen interest as the Thai national teams, both men and women, which are bidding to qualify for the Olympic Games will be in full strength.

It will be excellent warm-ups for our athletes because we will know how good the quartettes are, said Supanas.

Thailand will have two big events coming up in May where qualification for the Olympics will take place. On May 10 they will compete in Osaka and May 22-25 in China.
