Yala - Two gunmen opened fire at a teashop here, killing three civilians and injuring five others Saturday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred at 7:15 am in Bango Puloh village in Tambon Noenngam of Yala's Raman district.

Police blamed Muslim insurgents for the attack.

Police found a lot of spent shells of M-16 and AK-47 rifles' ammunitions at the scene.

Two of the killed civilians were identified as Sulkiflee Siyadee, 32, and Da-oh Sohwumae, 52. The other one was unidentified.

Arong Yama, 53, owner of the teashop told police that he saw at least four men in a white pick-up truck, which came to park in front of the shop.

He said two men on the back stood up and opened fire at the shop and the truck sped away.

Since the robbery of guns from an army base in January 2004, the insurgency has claimed more than 3,000 lives.
