The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on Friday proposed October 5 as the balloting day for the race for the position of Bangkok governor.

Incumbent Governor Apirak Kosayodhin is scheduled to complete his term on August 29. Under the election law, the gubernatorial race must take place within 45 days upon the completion of the four-year term.

Apirak has notified the Democrat Party that he will seek a reelection bid in August.

Abhisit Vejjajiva said the Democrat Party would endorse Apirak's candidacy.

The Democrats will finalise the decision on the gubernatorial race after they elect a new executive board on July 15, he said.

The party will also wait for the final ruling by the National Counter Corruption Commission, expected on July 9, whether to indict Apirak relating to the fire trucks scandal, Abhisit said.
