Coalition to file a motion on charter review as alternative

The coalition whips have agreed to file their version of a motion on charter review to be deliberated along with the one filed by the opposition, whips secretary Samart Kaewmeechai said on Wednesday.

The coalition's version will propose the special House committee comprising 60 members, compring 29 from the People Power, 21 from the Democrat, four from Chart Thai, three from Puea Pandin and one each from small parties.

Coalition and opposition parties will be allowed to nominate outsiders under the quotas alloted. And the government will not oppose if outsiders, such as Sondhi Limthongkul of the People's Alliance for Democracy and Weng Tojirakan from the proamendment group, are to sit on the committee.

The committee formation is expected to end street protests by channelling the rivalry over charter amendments to Parliament.
